Namheon Kim

Namheon Kim was born in South Korea and began his path in violin making in 2013 under the guidance of a master luthier in Seoul. Fascinated by the art of string instrument making, he moved to Cremona to devote himself fully to this craft. He studied violin making and restoration at the International Violin Making School of Cremona and, at the same time, learned the techniques of building and restoring Baroque instruments under the guidance of a specialized master, developing a particular interest in the viola da gamba. This experience led him to take care of the maintenance of the viola da gamba class instruments in Cremona, while also creating modern instruments on commission in his workshop.

After graduating from the Violin Making School of Cremona, he worked in a prestigious workshop in Düsseldorf, Germany, where he gained valuable experience collaborating with musicians of various nationalities, from beginners to professional orchestra members and soloists. He had the opportunity to work on a wide range of instruments, from student models to historical masterpieces of Italian violin making, further refining his skills in both construction and restoration.

In 2023, he returned to South Korea, where he currently manages his violin making workshop in Seoul. At the same time, he is consolidating his activity in Cremona, maintaining a constant bridge between the two artistic worlds.
